Ho’ala Training Swim
The Ironman World Championship week oficially started this Saturday with the Ho’ala Training Swim, an open water event that takes place on the Ironman swim leg course. For the first time in the event’s history, the overall champion was a woman – Lucy Charles, the English that won last year’s women’s race, beat Professional male triathlete Andi Boecherer to the line by six seconds with a record-establishing time of 48min56.
Brazilian Pro Igor Amorelli was third, in 49min23, and Fabio Carvalho was in the first group with a time of 50min08. Other Brazilian athletes did pretty well, too – Luiz Renato Topan, André Lopes, Gustavo Santos and José Belarmino were all among the Top 30 athletes in the race.
